Jo such a little name for such a person - Little Women by Louise M Alcott

This quote always resonated so well to me when I was in your presence. Your professionalism, your wit and caring nature towards the students in your care and the colleagues you worked with will stay with me forever.

I met Jo five years ago at Dwight School, where Jo served as a learning support assistant. I think I can speak on behalf of all the staff of the great respect and love we shared towards Jo. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and she was always there lending a supportive ear in the staff room while sipping a cup of tea. We shared many highs and lows together, but I will always remember her love for the students and how she always had their best interests at heart.

Jo was more than just a colleague to me, she was a mentor and friend. When Jo told me she was leaving the school my heart sank because I knew I was losing such a fantastic colleague and it was Highgate School's gain.

Jo kept her promise and we remained friends, still offering that caring and supportive ear, as I would go on for hours about my woes which all seem irrelevant now.

Jo never complained, to me about anything, and even when she told me of her illness, she remained cool and calm and I admired her strength. One of my last text messages with her she shared such an honest and thoughtful opinion, which I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I managed to see Jo in hospital, during December, and again I admired her strength even in what must have been a dark hour, but in true Jo fashion, we managed to share a laugh or two and forget briefly what was inevitably coming.

I admire Mary, particularly for her strength, she is most certainly her mother's daughter and she would be so proud of you. Jo always spoke so highly of both James and Mary, and I hope they both go on to do her proud and keep her spirit alive in this world, as there are so few people like Jo, and we need a lot more Jo's!

My love and prayers go to Peter, Mary and James, and while a light has gone out in all of our lives, a star is certainly shining brightly on us.

My best memory of Jo will always be hearing her laughter with the students from the classroom next to me - What a teacher is, is more important than what she teaches.

God bless my dear friend.
